7. "Until Such Time As The World Ends..." (Nick Fury)

Nick Fury is an experienced, no-nonsense leader whose attitude is of the "my way or the highway" variety and this quotation embodies those things.

This particular instance shows that Fury had two priorities - first, a perhaps foolish priority to ensure that the weapons that S.H.I.E.L.D had been working on (using the Tesseract to create them) were taken to safety in a crisis and, second, to ensure that the world still had something capable of defending it against the coming super-powered threats that Fury knew were on their way. In a sense, this was selfish, because many will argue that his only priority should have been to get his people out of the imminently collapsing facility they were in, without giving them the time-consuming job of collecting and carrying equipment to safety. But it also showed that he was thinking ahead and giving a damn about protecting the world after his people had done that. Essentially, it showed that, no matter what the risk of doing something, Fury was prepared to do it to ensure an ongoing ability to defend the world in which he and billions of other people lived. The end justified his means, so to speak. Full DialogueMaria Hill: "Sir, evacuation may be futile." Nick Fury: "We should tell them to go back to sleep?" Maria Hill: "If we can't control the Tesseract's energy, there may not be a minimum safe distance." Nick Fury: "I need you to make sure that phase 2 prototypes are shipped out." Every piece of phase 2 on a truck and gone." Maria Hill: "Yes, sir."
