10 Random Films That Are REALLY Popular In Certain Countries
8. The Jungle Book - Germany
Rudyard Kipling's novel, The Jungle Book, is so brutally violent, it felt bizarre, even foolish, for Walt Disney to adapt the story into a whimsical musical comedy. But not only is Wolfgang Reitherman's film regarded as a Disney classic, The Jungle Book earned $24 million at the box office, making it the most successful animated feature upon its release.
Now, that sort of money is regarded as chump change by today's standards, especially if you compared it to Disney's live-action remake, which earned almost a billion dollars. But in Germany, the original is still the king. Upon its release, The Jungle Book immediately became Germany's biggest movie.
45 years later... it still is! In fact, it's not even close since The Jungle Book sold 27 million tickets while the runner-up, Titanic, only sold 18.8 million. (Who would've thought a story revolving around dancing bear and a boy living in the tropics would outsell James Cameron's epic by nearly 10 million tickets!?)
Due to being re-released repeatedly, The Jungle Book has made $108 million in Germany - over quadruple its original box office! If it continues to being re-released in German theatres, it's quite realistic The Jungle Book will never be surpassed.
