Ever wondered what a futuristic science-fiction dystopia would look like? Well, if you've watched Blade Runner then you've probably already got a pretty good idea of what it could be like... This 1982 sci-fi film may have struggled in the box office at the time but it quickly became a firm cult classic. A modified film adaptation of Philip K Dick's 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", Ridley Scott's Blade Runner takes the world of sci-fi neo-noir dystopia to a frighteningly realistic level with brilliant visual imagery and magnificent sets. With Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) coming out of retirement to lead the Blade Runners (a specialist police force), he attempts to track down "Replicants" - genetically-engineered humanoids who are visually indistinguishable from adult humans and who have hidden in Los Angeles. In addition to this, the film is set an extremely futuristic-looking 2019 - and it appears unlikely that the world will have quite as many Replicants, Voight-Kampff testing machines or police spinners as feature in Blade Runner, although you never know... Yet, on saying that, the Instagram account "bladerunnerreality" has managed to capture some magnificent real-life images that look like they have been simply screengrabbed from the film they bear such a strong resemblance.
