10 (Realistic) Directors Who Should Direct A Star Wars Spin-Off Film
3. Guillermo Del Toro
Come on, who wouldn't pay good money to see what weird and wonderful creatures and aliens Guillermo del Toro could infest the Star Wars Universe with? And if each anthology film is going to strike a different tone as expected, with Rogue One looking like some sort of war/heist hybrid, then del Toro could definitely gift the world with a mystical, fairytale-like fantasy exploring the origins of everybody's favourite little green Jedi, Master Yoda.
Some may doubt that del Toro would be unwilling to commit himself to such a massive franchise after the fiasco surrounding his departure of The Hobbit after he had went as far as relocating his family to New Zealand.
Also, he ruled himself out of the race to direct The Force Awakens after his agent received the call, citing that he had too many of his own projects that he wanted to focus on.
Yet we can all live in hope. He may lament the lack of narrative freedom from directing a Star Wars movie, but if he was given a Pacific Rim-sized budget to tackle a Yoda origins story it must be a prospect that he would at least consider.
