10 (Realistic) Directors Who Should Direct A Star Wars Spin-Off Film
2. Brad Bird
Brad Bird was initially supposed to take up the helm for The Force Awakens but jumped ship so that he could make his big-budget passion project, Tomorrowland, which in hindsight looks like the biggest mistake he could have possibly made.
But though Tomorrowland was not a brilliant film by any means he has to be given respect for taking a chance on an original premise, and because Tomorrowland is a Disney film and Bird is already a legend at the company due to his work at Pixar, it's highly unlikely that The Mouse House hold any grudges against him for his decision.
If anything Disney should jump at the chance to sign Bird onto a Star Wars spin-off if the chance arose due to the simple fact that he is an incredibly talented and experienced filmmaker. His animation work on the likes of The Incredibles shows off his brilliant imagination and sense of humour, but it isn't only animation that Bird is well versed in.
Even though Tomorrowland is flawed it is a well-crafted film, and Ghost Protocol is one of the best Mission: Impossible films from the series and goes to show that he can execute a hell of an action scene.
However, with Bird hard at work on the long awaited sequel to The Incredibles until 2019 there is always the slim possibility that he won't get the chance to direct a Star Wars spin-off in the future if upcoming anthology movies are unsuccessful. But if they are successful, starting with Rogue One this winter, we could probably expect Star Wars movies up until 2050 if the direction Disney is moving in is anything to go by.
