8. Laurie Doesn't Check If Michael's Really Dead - Halloween

Lots of slashers trick the audience into thinking the killer is dead only for him to rise again, which makes for an eerie scare. However, it can also make the main characters seem really dumb for not checking to see if the killer was really taken care of, as is the case in the finale of Halloween. The first time this happens is when Michael attacks Laurie while she's hiding behind the couch. She stabs him in the neck and he collapses, and so she peers over to see him lying still. The wound wasn't that severe, and she's holding a knife, so this would be the time to pull a Sidney Prescott and stab him once more for good measure. Instead, she's so confident she lies back on the couch and throws the knife down on the floor. At least get out of the room first! The second time it happens, she stabs Michael just once and he falls over. At this point, it's been established that he can survive a wound like this, yet she still doesn't go in for any more. Not only that, but she turns her back to Michael for about a full minute, giving him plenty of room to sneak up on her. At least keep your eye on him until the police arrive! Come on, Laurie.
