If the list of potential directors we mentioned a few points ago (the men behind Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Zombieland and Role Models were all in the running) raised a few eyebrows we're not surprised; they're all comedy directors. Now, Edgar Wright was too, but he had much more experience in action thanks to his movies doubling as pastiches of some of Hollywood's most beloved genres. This suggests that not only are Marvel taking this lightly, but they're pushing it further than they've ever gone before into the realms of all out comedy. People may like to argue that Iron Man 3 or Guardians Of The Galaxy were basically comedies as well, but at the end of the day they brought the big action we expect from directors who had experience balancing both sides; Shane Black had Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and writing credits on Lethal Weapon under his belt, while James Gunn had made a name for himself with Slither and Super. Action-comedy is a notoriously hard genre to crack and while it may seem like the best way to deal with the character, the mash-up's box office history is incredibly poor, even with big names attached.
