Fans of Edgar Wright know that music plays an important part of his movies, and is always thoughtfully aligned with what’s on screen – the unforgettable image of Shaun and his friends beating up a zombie to the tune of Don’t Stop Me Now epitomises this style.

With Baby Driver, Wright’s gone full out on this, filling the movie with classic rock tracks, some popular, some less known, but all set to match the energetic action. It’s a playlist that rivals Guardians of the Galaxy when it comes to retro rocking, with over 30 tunes, including T-Rex, Young MC, The Button Down Brass, and, for Shaun of the Dead fans, a bit of Queen.

But these tracks aren’t just there for the sake of it – they’re linked to a key part of the story, as Baby’s tinnitus means he listens to music while driving to drown out the hum he’d otherwise hear. This will be manifested in the chase scenes to the point that they’re almost like musical numbers, with footage very carefully shot to synch with the beats.
