10 Reasons Batman Forever Is Better Than Any Other Batman Movie
6. Score
Without doubt, Danny Elfman made an iconic theme synonymous with Batman to accompany the 1989 movie. Variations are still used in a variety of Bat Media to set the tone as well as make them instantly recognisable. It was always going to be a tough act to follow to create a something that would marry well with a new movie but Elliot Goldenthal took an existing idea, then built upon it to create a score that could rival anything Elfman ever composed.
The influences are clearly there but aren't shirked away from. Bold brass and diverse complex symphonies all blend together to form a main theme that it both anthemic and memorable.
Where Batman Forever succeeds outside of a fantastic title theme is that Goldenthal takes the time to provide a character driven piece for each of the principal characters in the movie. With an apt two note led theme for Two-Face and a suitably crazy concoction of melodies for the unhinged performance of Jim Carrey as the Riddler, everybody gets their chance to shine.
By taking the time to focus on the what made these characters tick and composing accordingly, The Batman Forever score is a greater overall experience.
