9. Daredevil's Failure Wasn't (Just) His Fault
Affleck shoulders the vast majority of the blame for the failure of Daredevil, but in actuality, it really wasn't all his fault. He hardly gave a particularly compelling performance, and looked pretty ridiculous in the suit,
but the theatrical cut of Daredevil was a major piece of crap regardless of whether it starred Affleck or not. Hell, even Daniel Day Lewis would have struggled to imbue such a dramatically inert, goofy film with much credibility or gravitas. Affleck takes the brunt of the flak because he was Hollywood's critical punching bag at the time, and because it's so much easier to lambast the recognisable name and face of the venture rather than relatively anonymous writer-director Mark Steven Johnson. Furthermore, the Director's Cut of the movie is a significant improvement, toning down the romance and re-introducing some of the darker elements (namely a subplot that restores Coolio's drug addict character).
