10 Reasons Edge Of Tomorrow Is The Most Important Blockbuster Of 2014

9. Vrataski€™s Weapon Of Choice

One of the best things about Blunt€™s action heroine, Vrataski, is her weapon of choice, a sharpened helicopter blade. Where others are using guns and rocket launchers on the battlefield, she€™s essentially going old school with a massive sword, and frankly, you can€™t get much more awesome than that. Action movies, especially of the science fiction variety, are forever striving to be more and more high tech, inventing new weapons and redesigning current ones for the future - it€™s understandable, but it also eliminates the kinds of close-up fighting styles now almost never seen in films in the West. Hand-to-hand combat occasionally crops up, but it€™s almost always a novelty within a film serving as a memorable moment rather than a frequent occurrence, and it€™s a real shame that older weapons have largely been phased out. As the Angel of Verdun, though, expect nothing less than full-on intensity from Vrataski, who lives up to her nicknames and then some. Warfare with firearms just doesn€™t have the same effect that fighting with metal does, nor the beauty. One need only look at Tarantino€™s work on Kill Bill to understand that. The Bride€™s Hattori Hanz steel is a work of art, and it€™s why there is so much love for the film€™s Chapter 5: Showdown at House of Blue Leaves.
