10 Reasons Edge Of Tomorrow Is The Most Important Blockbuster Of 2014
8. To Prove The Bad Buzz Wrong
The past few years have seen some of the most notable box office bombs on record, topped by 47 Ronin, John Carter, R.I.P.D., and The Lone Ranger, but not all have died deserving deaths. The one that stands out most is The Lone Ranger; in the months leading up to release, it was plagued with what amounted to bad reviews, despite the fact no one had seen it yet. The negative hype fuelled misconceptions surrounding the film, which in a vicious circle led to its failure to convert tentpole action into box office dollars. World War Z was on the brink of notoriety two weeks earlier, but solid reviews from audiences and critics alike saved the apocalyptic zombie movie, instead launching the franchise Paramount had been eyeing that few believed was possible as late as the week before release. Edge of Tomorrow deserves that kind of success. It hasnt been plagued with bad buzz on the same level as The Lone Ranger, but people have been hanging question marks over its head left, right, and centre, without even seeing it. And with the World Cup about to kick off, and many established properties coming out soon, global audiences could in turn question whether its worth watching something theyre unfamiliar with and it really, really is.
Movie / TV enthusiast with a DVD and Blu-ray collection bigger than I'd care to admit. If anyone is offering creative / furniture solutions to house them, I'm all ears.
