10 Reasons Fast & Furious 9 Is A Cinematic Car Wreck

8. Jakob Is An Awful Villain...

Fast and Furious 9

The most hyped-up new character in this movie was Jakob Hobbs (John Cena), Dom's estranged brother, but unfortunately Jakob is a very disappointing villain indeed. This isn't the fault of John Cena, who is perfectly OK in the role, but the character just doesn't work at all.

Jakob is nothing than a blank, personality-free strong guy who's supposed to be very dangerous but still never elicits much dread from the audience.

Jakob isn't an interesting character, his fight scenes aren't very good and worst of all, he's given a big redemption arc that doesn't feel earned in the slightest.

As for his fight scenes with Vin Diesel, those don't live up to expectations at all and compared to Vin Diesel's amazing fights with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in Fast Five and Furious Seven respectively, these moments are unacceptably bland.

It's also ridiculous that the film expects us to buy Dom and Jakob being brothers and, additionally, why was this other sibling never mentioned before?
