10 Reasons Film Buffs Are Single

3. You Just Don't Get Me

All couples will have arguments and fights, but because of them the relationship will grow stronger and you will work on your flaws to become better for one another and blah, blah, blah. There will come a point when a couple will not understand what they're fighting about and when it does someone will yell, "You just don't understand me!" And it'll be true because in that moment you have no idea how you went from eating pizza to fighting about dirty dishes. The cinephile will most likely use this phrase... all the time. "What was so good about that movie?" You wouldn't get it. "Are you angry about something?" You just got that? "What's wrong?" You just don't get me. The cinephile has been formed by artful films and artful films have a sense of mystery in them because the human experience has much that we cannot explain. The cinephile will try, in vain, to understand these mysteries and will go into an existential depression, which everyone apparently doesn't "get." The cinephile is, ironically, the embodiment of this mystery and will be a martyr for it until someone or something pulls him out of it to "get" him or her. Just don't let it be a Deus Ex Machina. Cinephiles don't like cheap endings.

I'm a thinker/fantasizer who writes down his thoughts and fantasies hoping it makes sense to everyone else. Also I'm an aspiring screenwriter, but if I can work in film at all, I'd be happy. One day you may hear the name Ryan Kim and associate it with "Academy Award winning writer" or with "where's that guy with my coffee." If the latter comes true, please let it be Paul Thomas Anderson's coffee I'm getting.
