10 Reasons Ghostbusters II Is Ridiculously Underrated

8. Harold Ramis

Ghostbusters II

While Dan Aykroyd dreamt up the original concept for Ghostbusters, it was Harold Ramis who helped him cut it down to size. He came up with the idea of it being an origin story, and that it should follow the team setting up their business.

Of course, he also made Egon one of the coolest nerds in cinema, with his deadpan delivery and command of technical jargon. Ramis is never better than Ghostbusters II, where he’s constantly running strange experiments – the dancing toaster would be a cool Christmas gift, btw – or throwing out killer lines like “Venkman, get a stool sample” or “Very good Louis. Short but... pointless.”

Egon has also developed a sense of humour since the original, since he’s now more willing to snark back to Venkman. The movie really highlights what a talented comic performer Ramis was, and why he was irreplaceable to the original series.
