10 Reasons Ghostbusters II Is Ridiculously Underrated

6. The World Of The Psychic

Ghostbusters II
Columbia Pictures

It took five years for Ghostbusters II to come together, despite the massive success of the original. This was down to Bill Murray taking a break from acting, and the rest of the crew not being especially interested. It was only after the success of The Real Ghostbusters that the studio insisted they reunite.

So for part two we find the Ghostbusters in a bad spot after the first movie since they were blamed for the massive destruction in the finale and sued by the city – though it's not like they could have sued Gozer for it.

They've gone their separate ways, with Venkman becoming the host for a low rent TV show called The World Of The Psychic. This is the perfect reintroduction to the character, where he interviews two weirdos about the end of the world and is openly contemptuous of his own show. Murray is clearly having fun and his delivery of “Hairless pets. Weird!” is comic perfection. It's enough to make you wish Murray actually hosted a show like this.

On a side note, the psychic who predicts the world will end on New Year’s Eve is on to something; Vigo’s apocalypse was due to take place on that date.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
