10 Reasons Ghostbusters II Is Ridiculously Underrated

5. Vigo The Carpathian

Ghostbusters II
Columbia Pictures

Ah yes, Vigo The Carpathian; also known as Vigo the Cruel, Vigo the Torturer, Vigo the Despised, Vigo the Unholy and – possibly – Vigo The Butch. He’s the villain of the movie, a former tyrant and sorcerer whose soul is trapped in a portrait.

Despite spending most of the story trapped in a painting, Prince Vigo makes for a great villain. The picture is terrifying all by its self, but Vigo's booming voice (provided by an uncredited Max Von Sydow) and spiteful face seal the deal. He’s so good as a lingering threat it’s almost underwhelming when he finally emerges from the picture in the finale; until he morphs into a horrible looking demon thing and goes back to being straight up petrifying.

Mr Stay Puft and Slimer hog the limelight when comes to being iconic villains from the series, but Vigo is a more than worthy addition to the villain hall of fame.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
