10 Reasons IT Is Better Than The Original

1. Nostalgia Plays No Factor In Its Reception

All things considered, the main reason the TV movie continues to endure is nostalgia. A lot of people saw it on TV when they were young, and were bowled over by Tim Curry's performance while lacking the critical faculty to recognise the movie's countless issues.

The new film, however, will primarily be seen by adults due to its R rating and the fact that it hasn't gone straight to TV, which will result in it being received in a fundamentally different way.

That's not to guarantee that the 2017 It will become a pop-culture touchstone on par with the original, but in sheer dollars-to-donuts quality, it's a much better film that won't need to prop itself up on nostalgia three decades later. It will be remembered because, funnily enough, it's a genuinely great movie.

It'll be interesting to see how history favours the new film, but barely removed at all from its release, it's clear that it's one of the most revered major studio horror films in years, and nostalgia's got nothing to do with it.
