10 Reasons Jurassic World Is The Best Sequel In The Franchise
2. It's A Fun Ride
A major problem with the sequels so far had been their complete lack of fun. The Lost World saw the return of Ian Malcolm, but with a curiously neutered personality. In the first film he was an eccentric mathematician and the comic heart of the film, yet the second time around, as the central character, producers presumably saw fit to knock off a few rough edges, making him more of a traditional leading man. It didn't pay off, and his molly-coddling of his stroppy teen daughter and bumbling girlfriend held back what was actually a serviceable sequel. This film goes for something different. The kids are left on their own and there is thus a real sense of adventure as they prove they are resourceful enough to survive. Underlying through the whole thing, the film encourages you to have fun. You spend time in the park, getting to look around the dino-crèche and even visiting the T-Rex at feeding time - moments that serve mainly to provide you with wonder. It's all in stark contrast to the second and third films, which seemed to forget our fascination with dinosaurs altogether. For once here is a movie which lets us enjoy ourselves.
