8. No More Dumb Moments
Let's get one thing straight; there is plenty of silliness in this movie. That said, thankfully, it is all totally self-conscious. You find yourself laughing with the film, not at it. Chris Pratt offers plenty of gems as the film gets going, and Bryce Dallas Howard has her moments as the stiff, neurotic operations manager, not to mention Irrfan Khan as Richard Attenbrough 2.0. It's far from a comedy, but the jokes work in that they break up the action and give something to like about the characters. What this film really had to do was avoid any face-palm moments, and it did so pretty comfortably. There was no scene as bad as the one from Jurassic Park III when Alan Grant falls asleep on the plane (Alan!) and nor were there any gymnastic high-jinx either. Instead, you are treated to a film which doesn't take itself too seriously, but knows where to draw the line. You laugh when you're supposed to, rather than at the incompetence of the writers or director.
