10 Reasons Mad Max: Fury Road Is The Weirdest Blockbuster Ever

9. It Passes The Bechdel Test, And Then Some

It's a shame that a blockbuster actually passing the Bechdel Test can appropriately be described as "weird", or as a one-off - but such is the state of Hollywood filmmaking circa 2015. Even rarer is a film - any film, not just Hollywood productions - that actually dares to make nearly all its main characters female and then keep their interests central to the plot. Using the Mad Max brand to bring in cinemagoers for a surprisingly feminist action movie has angered some - certain 'men's rights' groups have boycotted the film, failing to realise that every other blockbuster for the past forever has already been about men. And that's a big part of why Mad Max: Fury Road seems so odd: the women aren't just wives or romantic objects in this, but fully-fledged participants in the unparalleled mayhem. Is it strange to see women taking the fight to men and winning in this movie? Absolutely. Does it in any way harm the film? Absolutely not.
