10 Reasons Mad Max: Fury Road Is The Weirdest Blockbuster Ever

3. The Fashion Is Like Some Druidic S&M Chic...

That George Miller has been preparing for Mad Max: Fury Road for years is writ all over the film - the immensely detailed character design and fashion in particular is something that could only have come out of years of deliberation. There are different groups to be found in the film, all complete with their own individual characteristics, but on the whole what you have here is a kind of druid chic, by way of S&M and '80s hair metal. The people of The Citadel, Bullet Farm and Gastown, to focus on just one faction, are either adorned with trinkets from the old-world to assert their higher rank, or covered from head-to-toe in white powder and black face paint to indicate their lowly tribal status. Some have fetchingly had their battle scars stapled back together. Then there are characters like Immortan Joe and Rictus Erectus, who wander around adorned with spoils of battles past and supported by breathing apparatus keeping them alive. The fashion of tomorrow, as displayed in Fury Road, is an eccentric attempt to make something eye-catching out of the artefacts of old.
