10 Reasons The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Best Days Are Behind It
5. Marvel Are Potentially Stalling Creativity
Raise your hand if you were disappointed when Marvel decided to give Ant-Man director Edgar Wright the boot, replacing him with Peyton Reed, who - let's face it - is nowhere nearly as interesting an option. Wright reportedly left the project due to "creative differences," but it wouldn't be unfair to assume that Marvel weren't happy with how much of a personal stamp Wright - something of an auteur - would've left on the project and asked him to go. That's just guesswork, but given Marvel's tendency to hire directors who they can exert their control over, it's not hard to see how there might be some truth in it. In their efforts to keep everything to "factory order," then, there's a good chance that certain creative aspects are being suffocated. An Ant-Man film directed by Edgar Wright could've been an amazing move for the studio; their unwillingness to take risks is highlighted in his departure.
