After Iron Man 3 hit theaters in 2013, there was a brouhaha over whether fandom had seen the last of Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark. Thankfully, cooler heads (and tens of millions of dollars) prevailed, and the actor was signed for two more films - Avengers 2 and Avengers 3. Recent developments, however, have shown that Downey's up for more than just that. Not only is Avengers 3 going to be released as two separate films a year apart, but the character of Tony Stark is essential to the plot of Captain America 3... and Downey will be reprising his role. His continued involvement comes as a great relief. In a sense, there's no one more central to the Marvel Cinematic Universe than Downey - not Kevin Feige, not Joss Whedon. He's the face of the entire thing, and the more of him the fans get, the easier it is to rest assured that they're in good hands. Now, how about an announcement on Iron Man 4?
