10 Reasons Nightmare On Elm Street 3 Is Secretly The Best Freddy Film

4. Better Ending

The ending of the original has some great moments, yet it has some annoying flaws as well. Was the pre-credit scene just a dream? If so, was Freddy still alive? And who was doing the dreaming, Nancy? Then why was her mom the victim? Why would Freddy kill someone who was already dead? Was everybody alive again?! The ending of Dream Warriors, on top of being cleaner, plugs holes none of the later sequels would bother with, which is why none of those offer much beyond the one-upping €œFreddy body distortion€ scene. Most importantly, it provides a satisfying explanation as to why it was truly over for good this time thanks to a shovel, some holy water and a cross. Sure, the credits roll on a clear teaser to another sequel, but seeing as it does nothing to undo the conclusion, it can also be written off as on of those final winks before saying so long. The restless spirit is committed to the grave (but not before settling some scores,) the heroine is martyred, and in general there's a satisfying sense of having come full circle. It all smacks of finality€ but hey, if you prefer to believe that the saga would go on thanks to flaming dog urine, who's to tell you otherwise?
