10 Reasons Prometheus 2 Should Be Scrapped For Alien 5

8. Prometheus 2 Won't Really Be An Alien Movie

One of the most frequent complaints about Prometheus is that it's a movie clearly suffering from an identity crisis. On one hand it wants to draw in fans of the Alien movies, though on the other wants to disassociate itself from that world and flourish on its own merits. Jon Spaihts' original script for the movie, entitled Alien: Engineers, had far more direct links to the first Alien movie, and when Damon Lindelof was brought in to punch up the script, one of his directives was to reduce the link to Alien. From an audience perspective, it seems rather tacky to clearly sell a film on the premise that it will give audiences answers about the previous movies and expand upon the mythology, even as it actively distances itself from the events of the first film in particular by setting itself on a different moon, even if the events otherwise seem to match up pretty damn well with Alien. If this is their plan from here on out, we can probably expect more of the same from Prometheus 2, especially if it's set on an Engineer planet far away from the scope of influence of the Alien series. Though we expect that Ridley Scott and co. will have taken note of the severe criticisms of Prometheus, they're too far committed to the cliffhanger at the end of the movie to suddenly change direction and focus more on the world of Ripley and/or the Xenomorphs, As such, this won't really be much of an Alien movie either.
