10 Reasons Prometheus 2 Should Be Scrapped For Alien 5
3. It Can Fix Alien 3 & Alien: Resurrection
Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection were rightly derided by fans for making a number of bizarre creative decisions that just didn't fit in with the rest of the series. Alien 3 unceremoniously killed off two of the series' most beloved characters, Newt and Hicks, at the very beginning, as well as killing Ripley off at the end, which then led to her ridiculous clone-based resurrection in the following film. It's all silly and reads more like rickety fan fiction than something audiences would actually want to see, but hey, they both happened, and we need to live with that. Or do we? One major benefit of making an Alien 5 is that it can, to an extent, correct these problems. We live in a cinematic culture where reboots aren't too much of a big deal anymore, specifically soft reboots which cherry-pick which aspects of the continuity they want to keep and discard, and as such, it could certainly be applied to the Alien series. Though some are going to suggest just leaving the Alien series be, that too much damage has already been done, there's an argument to be made for an Alien 5 (perhaps given a more series-neutral title) that forges a different destiny for Ripley following Aliens, and hey, Michael Biehn still looks pretty good for his age, so why not bring Hicks back too?
