Zack Snyder's first few entries in the DCEU set a gloomy tone that didn't sit right with some viewers, and even diminished expectations for future films.

When rumors surfaced that director David Ayer was reshooting Suicide Squad to add more humor, many fans believed the lie despite corrective statements made by both Jai Courtney and Ayer himself. While films such as Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam! have each managed to strike their own unique tone, those who criticized the first Justice League film may still have trouble washing the taste out of their mouths in preparation for a sequel.

The first Justice League contains a fair number of light-hearted beats, but they lack consistency. Aquaman is either an angry loner or the life of the party, depending on which characterization the scene prefers. Batman alternates between typical Snyder gloom and cornball quips that might not feel out of place in a Joel Schumacher film. The Flash delivers humor on a steadier basis, but it doesn't always play well when he's surrounded by characters who don't appreciate his youthful enthusiasm.

Shazam! keeps its humor consistent throughout, and his ability to crack a joke is one of the few things Billy appears to feel confident about. As opposed to the woefully awkward Barry Allen, he doesn't need anybody else to laugh at his jokes. He's perfectly fine being the only one who laughs, and that confidence plays well on-screen.
