10 Reasons Star Wars Visions Is The Future Of The Franchise
7. It's Showing Us Daily Life in A Galaxy Far, Far Away
When creating good sci-fi, it's important to ensure the details of its fictional world feel authentic and lived-in, making the experience more believable overall and helping audiences suspend their disbelief. One way to do this is to show the day-to-day lives of the characters and how they inhabit the fantastical worlds on display.
A New Hope was superlative at this. The film paused in the beginning to show us Luke's existence as a moisture farmer on Tatooine, doling out details about how life on the desert planet worked and the society that arose on it. Star Wars became more focused on large scale battles and spectacles as the series progressed and sometimes the smaller details became lost amid the cacophony of special effects and action.
While The Force Awakens did a good job of showing Rey's life as a scavenger on Jakku, this element became subsumed by the larger narrative in the subsequent prequel trilogy films. Visions restores the ground level take on Star Wars, pausing to show us life functioning in the villages and far flung outposts of the Star Wars galaxy. This attention to detail helps draw in the audience and makes Visions a truly immersive experience in the best tradition of Star Wars.
