10 Reasons Star Wars Visions Is The Future Of The Franchise
6. It's Showing Us New Corners of the Galaxy
One of the joys of the original Star Wars was the expansive feeling it had, showing various planets where unique civilisations with different ways of life had sprung up. But, as the series progressed, our heroes began to return to the same planets over and over again. Tatooine and Coruscant became old hat and each time these familiar places appeared in the saga, the universe Lucas created felt smaller and smaller, relegating the action to familiar territory.
The sequel trilogy did offer new planets to explore, but it also recycled the notion of a hero living on a desert planet, and every time a sand-laden vista appeared onscreen, the franchise felt more and more tired.
Visions shows a wide variety of locales, with unique inhabitants and societies. While each one is different to what we've seen before, they all bear aesthetic similarities in their technologies and feel, making each instalment feel like a piece of a larger whole. These innovations are opening up Lucas' vision so that we can explore what should be an almost infinite galaxy, which will only keep things fresh and interesting as the series progresses.
