6. It Was Deemed "Unfilmable" By Many

Considering how many attempts have been made over the last decade to bring The Dark Tower to the big screen, it shouldn't be surprising that many have deemed the series "unfilmable".

The series is simply so much more complex and ambitious than any other King creation, requiring an intricate understanding of the tone and world-building across the series, which would frankly make adapting, say, The Shawshank Redemption seem like a comparable piece of cake.

J.J. Abrams and Ron Howard have both made concerted efforts to get the film made over the years, and if forces as powerful as them can't get it done, it's perhaps a sign that a big Hollywood movie adaptation was never going to work.
