5. An Unfinished Trailer Leaked Last October

Some seven months before the film's first trailer was officially released, a rough-cut trailer was leaked online, which quickly went rival online and surely did more harm than good considering the rather "mixed" reception to it (to be kind).

Reddit is full of threads where die-hard Dark Tower fans decried the movie as a sacrilegious adaptation that seemed to misguidedly focus the story on Jake, and as one user so astutely put it, "Don't remember it being a YA novel."

This unfortunate leak so early put fans on the back foot long before any official marketing for the movie was released, and the fact that the official trailer didn't seem much better only poured more fuel on the fire.
