10 Reasons The Haters Should Lay Off Suicide Squad
3. Jared Leto Is A Method Man
You can debate the look of Suicide Squad's Joker all you want, but there's no questioning Jared Leto's commitment to his craft. A consummate method actor, Leto won an Oscar for his troubles in 2014 for Dallas Buyer's Club, in which he played a drug-addled, HIV-positive transsexual. To play Buyer's Club's Rayon, Leto lost 30 pounds and stayed in character during production; previously, Leto had gained 67 pounds and got gout to play Mark Chapman in Chapter 27. Both times, Leto's intense preparation resulted in performances that earned him praise - and for Suicide Squad, he's doing it again. Leto has been sporting a more sinewy frame of late and been found occasionally breaking into his Joker voice during Thirty Seconds to Mars gigs, evidence that Leto's still committed to taking the role home with him in order to nail the part. His beefed-up Joker already appears to be a unique creation - if he manages half of what Heath Ledger achieved in The Dark Knight, it'll have been worth the dedication.
