Paul Rudd is mostly associated with comedy roles, but the actor is seeking to diversify himself, so he is putting everything he can into this role. The few images that have been released show his character, Scott Lang, looking dark and gritty, while the concept itself does require an element of comedy if the project is going to be a success. Michael Douglas has said in an interview that the Ant-Man costume had to be redesigned because Rudd had concentrated on his physique so much. Rudd is clearly dedicated to this potential career changing role, so it is not a good idea to write his performance off so quickly. The rest of the cast, such as Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas are accomplished actors, but Rudd should be the standout performance because he is the titular character and because audiences will be surprised by how the actor has challenged himself with this performance.
