Marvels Distinguished Competition will soon be expanding their cinematic universe, and judging by Man Of Steel it is reasonable to assume that the tone will be gritty, sombre and markedly less funny than Marvel. This isnt to say that the studio behind the Avengers is infallible in regards to humour there are tonnes of examples of misplaced or overused jokes (like Darcy in the Thor movies) but the tone of Ant-Man needs to accept that humour is a necessary part of the concept. Rudds background will help this, but Marvel have managed to strike a balance recently, with both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy managing to match the jokes with gritty and explosive action scenes. A little under a year after the release of this movie DC will launch Batman Vs Superman, making Ant-Man Marvels last chance to cement their different tone to their comic book competitors. Marvels comic book tone has been one of the reasons for their continual success, and Ant-Man can showcase this tone before DC brings about the darker and shadowy shared universe of their own.
