10 Reasons We'll Miss Hugh Jackman As Wolverine

7. He Can Give Us A Cynical Shell We Can See Through Anyway

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULtRK_7MM8w For all his sincere longing for a place in the world, Wolverine has had a rough enough life that his first instinct in any new situation is to lash out a bit, if not with claws, then at least with barbed words. In the hands of another actor, the way he makes fun of Charles Xavier's handicap in their first meeting ("What do they call you? Wheels?) would come across as downright assholish. Jackman doesn't shy away from the cynicism of Logan's barbs. But at this point, we've already seen his anxious vulnerability and the fatherly looks he's given Rogue. Because he has sold us on the character's heart, he can take as many swipes at his teammates as he wants ("Is that your gift? Putting up with that guy?") and it doesn't matter. We've seen how he acts when he thinks no one's watching, when someone needs him. We're on to him. If only the Xavier and Magneto of an earlier era could have looked past that rough exterior and saw what we see, things might have been very different.
