10 Reasons Why Lightyear Failed

5. The Absence Of Tim Allen As Buzz

Many have also pointed to the absence of original Buzz Lightyear actor Tim Allen as contributing to Lightyear flopping.

While it's not inherently nonsensical to cast a younger actor as a more virile version of Buzz - given that Allen is almost 70 years old today - many were disappointed that Allen wasn't involved in some way.

Some felt that Disney opted not to cast Allen in the part due to his controversial political comments, yet considering that Allen just recently wrapped shooting a Santa Clause series for Disney+, that doesn't seem likely.

It certainly would've made sense for Allen to play the older Buzz we meet later in the film, though.

As good as Chris Evans was voicing Buzz, it's admittedly hard not to view his casting as a little cynical, that Disney just had to put an Avenger in the role. Some meanwhile suggested that Pixar should've hired Patrick Warburton instead, who voiced Buzz in the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command TV series.

Given that Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear, his presence was sorely missed by a lot of fans, regardless of the fact that this wasn't the toy version of Buzz.
