10 Reasons Why Star Trek: First Contact Ruined the Borg

2. Space Vampires

The Borg€™s original presentation as the aforementioned €œintergalactic Zombie€ was dark, dangerous and more menacing than any villain seen on Next Generation up to that point. In First Contact, however, these menacing beings are reduced to €œSpace Vampires.€ Under the rule of the Queen Vampire (don€™t even get me started on the Queen!) they are somehow now less interested in the ship and its technology but in assimilating it€™s crew. This not only disregards established canon but it is less dramatic. I will be the first to admit that the Borg€™s sudden switch to assimilation through Nano-Technology is a logical evolution for them, however, the Borg as they existed in the series would not have wasted time on the Vampiric assimilation of the crew in this fashion and would have instead injected nanobots into the computer core and assimilated the ship€™s technology. This change in behavior is obviously contrived and frankly makes no sense.
