Most memorable was his superbly-acted monologue mid-way through the film about a woman he could not save on a mission, one which was so well-acted it felt like it probably belonged in a better film, and served to in fact bog the film down for a few minutes. Nevertheless, it was expected that he would return, and an early plot synopsis even suggested that the film would begin with Tool being brutally killed, which would force The Expendables into action to seek vengeance. Nevertheless, there is no Rourke here at all, and no mention or explanation is given for his disappearance. Again, like Li, his being killed might have made more sense than the actual direction the plot finally went...
