9. Jet Li's Departure
Once that opening action scene is over, The Expendables load up into a plane and get ready to head home. Jet Li's Yin Yang and the Chinese national both parachute out of the plane, as he declares that he has to "go home" for a little while. Though one might expect that he would return later on when the chips were down and help save the day, that is the sum of Li's contribution to the film; after the first 15 minutes, he simply jumps quite literally out of the picture, and is not seen again. What's most disappointing is not that Li leaves - given the abundance of badassery that comes to replace him - but the meek manner with which he is written out, making it quite easy for him simply not to be referenced again in any future Expendables films. Why not give him a dramatic, action-packed exit? His brief moments on screen contribute to one of the film's most exhilarating morsels of action - a lightning-fast hand-to-hand exchange that he follows up with a skilfully-choreographed use of a frying pan as a weapon - so why not just have him die in an extremely cool, badass way? It certainly would have made more sense to kill him off than the character who eventually bites the bullet anyway...
