10 Reasons Why The Muppet Christmas Carol Is The Best Christmas Movie

4. Tiny Tim

The Muppet Christmas Carol Michael Caine

For both Charles Dickens' story and the Muppets' colourful adaptation, Tiny Tim is the heart and soul of the tale. Played by Kermit's nephew Robin the Frog, he made small, green and big-eyed adorable a whole generation before Baby Yoda commandeered that particular niche. Only the coldest of hearts won't shed a tear for Tiny Tim.

In spite of his physical state, Tim is optimistic, kind and loving. He emerges as a painful reminder to Scrooge that he has no right to be so dismal and cruel when he has all his wealth and plenty of money - something that the Cratchit family have to do without - and it is Tiny Tim's fate that seals Scrooge's transformation. Tim's vulnerability and weakness are emphasised by Robin's small stature, as are his ability to find wonder in even the smallest of things.

The Muppets occupy a special place in audiences' hearts, and Tiny Tim is all the proof of that you could hope for. His apparent fate is distressing, and yet his eventual return is so emotionally fulfilling. Tim's kindness and love are brought to life by his Muppet-ness, highlighting both the nature and the purpose of a character who brings out the best in everyone around him.
