10 Reasons You’re Wrong About Spider-Man 3

2. It Struck A Fantastic Balance

Comic books are funny books. If you ignore the humorous side of the source material, especially with a character like Spider-Man, you risk alienating your audience. Like its predecessors, this film balanced humorous and comedic parts with the serious tones throughout the movie. The film has its sombre moments; the Sandman€™s predicament is hardly amusing, Eddie Brock€™s career is flushed down the toilet, and Mary Jane spends the majority of the film dealing with her insecurities and failures. This is hardly the stuff that comedies are made of. But Raimi managed to balance these depressing points with one line quips and scenes designed to lighten the mood. Following an altercation with Sandman, Peter Parker sits atop a building emptying his sand filled boots. This scene didn€™t particularly move the story along, but it humanised the character and made most people chuckle. Striking the correct balance meant the film was digestible for the viewers and avoided overloading the audience with the story and the action, just like the other two films in the trilogy.
