10 Recent Horror Movie Deaths Nobody Saw Coming

Strange Darling isn't the only horror film to cleverly manipulate audiences with intentionally misleading marketing, as A Quiet Place: Day One also pulled that off terrifically.

In the trailer, one of the most memorable sequences shows one of the elderly puppeteers in the theater being killed by one of the alien creatures as he attempts to turn off a noisy generator. Except, this doesn't actually happen in the final movie itself - in reality this fate befalls a far more significant character, the male lead of the movie's first act, Reuben (Alex Wolff).

Evidently, director Michael Sarnoski decided to shoot some alternate shots showing a different character trying to turn off the generator in an attempt to ensure that Reuben's death scene would catch us all by surprise in the movie proper, and that it certainly did.

Even accepting that the film's true male lead was very clearly shown to be Joseph Quinn's Eric in trailers, this was a masterful way to dupe audiences.
