10 Recent Horror Movie Deaths Nobody Saw Coming

While it wasn't exactly a massive shock that The Substance's embattled protagonist, Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), didn't make it to the end of the movie in one piece, who the hell saw... this coming?

Fading celeb Elisabeth uses an experimental drug to birth a younger version of herself, Sue (Margaret Qualley), whose body she can inhabit every other week, but of course, there are inevitably dire consequences.

A schism progressively forges between the two, and when they abuse the instructions of the procedure, they're both left fully conscious, resulting in Sue beating Elisabeth to death. But that's not the end, for Elisabeth's death causes Sue to deteriorate, and when she attempts to grow her own younger self, the result is "Monstro Elisasue" - a nauseating hybrid of Elisabeth and Sue.

Despite this, Elisasue goes to present the New Year's TV special as planned, leading to a bloody climax in which she's decapitated by a disgusted audience member.

The final scene? Elisasue's remains collapse onto her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where her original face appears briefly before melting into the pavement. Hands up anyone who had that on their bingo card when they sat down to watch this.
