10 Recent Horror Movies That Surprised EVERYONE

9. Final Destination Bloodlines

Much as everyone wanted the sixth Final Destination movie to mark a major comeback for the franchise, how many great or even good fifth horror sequels are there? Moreover, how many good horror movies are there with the word "Bloodlines" in the title?

But Final Destination Bloodlines was a pleasant surprise for so many reasons, not least that it landed a stonking 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it far and away the best-reviewed film in the series.

Beyond that, filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein offered up some of the series' gnarliest death scenes to date, including a chaotic banger of a premonition sequence, and clearly had a ton of fun toying with fan expectations.

Bloodlines also managed to be a slyly emotional affair, wringing enormous pathos out of the late Tony Todd's cameo as returning mortician William Bludworth. Who ever expected to find themselves holding back tears in a Final Destination movie?

Bloodlines could've easily been just another entry into the series, but between its creative kills, smart ties back to the original films, and intriguing new ideas, this was pretty close to a best case scenario.
