4. Don't Breathe 2
In Don't Breathe, three thieves break into the house of a blind man called Norman, mistaking him for an easy target to steal from. But after the burglars learn the man is anything but helpless, they find themselves in a terrifying game of cat and mouse.
Even though Don't Breathe could've come across as gimmicky, the film keeps you at the edge of your seat, thanks to Stephen Lang's career-defining performance as Norman. The character could've come across as a mindless killing machine but Lang's skills and the phenomenal script made Norman feel like a real person.
Because the character proved so popular, it was decided to revise him in the sequel as a flawed antihero rather than a conflicted monster. Although you can understand why the writers did this, it was a bad move. No matter what good Norman does in Don't Breathe 2, it doesn't nullify the atrocities he committed in the first film. (It'd be like if Jason Voorhees decided to be a good guy in a Friday the 13th movie, and the writers expected viewers to go along with it because he's popular!) Lang does his best with what he's given but it's not enough to save the movie.
