10 Recent Indie Horror Movies To Watch This Halloween

4. Ghost Stories

Ghost Stories
Lionsgate

Horror anthologies have a tendency to be wildly inconsistent between chapters, so Ghost Stories deserves particular praise for delivering pervasive intrigue across its three creepy tales.

Bolstered by an ingenious framing device you're better off knowing nothing about, this adaptation of Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson's West End show - adapted by themselves, and also co-starring Nyman - melds chilly thrills with dark humour to highly entertaining effect.

Particular praise goes to the ensemble cast - Nyman, Martin Freeman, Alex Lawther and Paul Whitehouse are all terrific - and a script full of expectation-defying twists and turns. If you're looking for a classically eerie horror film with just enough subversive edge this Halloween, look no further.
