10 Movie Castings You Did Not See Coming

4. Sigourney Weaver As Kiri In Avatar: The Way Of Water

It's certainly not uncommon for an actor to play multiple roles in the same film. In recent years alone, look at Michael B. Jordan, who will play twins in Ryan Coogler's upcoming Sinners, Jim Carrey portraying two Robotniks in Sonic 3, and of course Robert Patterson's multiple versions of Mickey Barnes in Mickey 17.

With this in mind, it shouldn't be too surprising that Sigourney Weaver took on a second role for Avatar: The Way of Water. She portrayed Grace in the first Avatar film way back in 2009, and as well as reprising that role in a cameo of sorts in 2022, she portrayed in a more major role Kiri.

Though Grace died during the events of the first film, her avatar gave birth to Kiri, the 14-year-old character played by the actor in her 70s.

Of course, with the motion capture involved and Weaver playing the daughter of her original character, you can see how this was possible, and why the decision was made. However, no one could have possibly had Sigourney Weaver playing a teenage girl in 2022 on their bingo card.
