6. Annie - Sinners
Ryan Coogler's Sinners is a film with its fair share of impactful death scenes, but not one hit nearly as hard as that of Annie (Wunmi Mosaku) in the blood-soaked finale.
The estranged wife of Smoke (Michael B. Jordan), Annie is basically the heart and soul of the entire movie, being both a Hoodoo practitioner and forever haunted by the death of her and Smoke's infant daughter.
She's easily one of the smartest and most resourceful characters in the movie, playing a vital part in the central characters understanding what's happening around them, so it's genuinely crushing when she dies in the third act.
Annie is bitten and then, per the mutual promise she made with Smoke if such fate befell either one of them, he drives a wooden stake into her heart, preventing her from becoming a vampire.
It's by far the most tragic death in the movie, enough that even vampire Mary (Hailee Steinfeld) cries out in anguish when it happens.
But in the very least, we do get to see Annie, Smoke, and their daughter reunited in the great beyond at the very end.
