4. Dementus Gets Turned Into A Tree... Maybe - Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
If you understandably expected Furiosa to conclude with the title character (Anya Taylor-Joy) wreaking brutal vengeance upon villain Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) and killing him in an extremely brutal way, that wasn't quite what filmmaker George Miller delivered.
Furiosa ends up capturing Dementus in the desert and has him imprisoned at the Citadel, at which point we're offered a few possible explanations for what happened to him next.
The final one, and the one heavily implied to be true, is the most messed-up of the lot, whereby Furiosa basically had Dementus turned into a tree in the Citadel's hydroponic gardens.
His emaciated but still-living body is seen being used as fertiliser for a peach tree, the narrator describing maggots devouring his necrotised flesh.
It's a uniquely savage means of punishment for Dementus, robbing him of his life and liberty but not literally killing him.
Of all the insane things we've seen in the Mad Max franchise over the decades, this is definitely up there with the most unhinged of it all.
